Baruch

The next day we played against Baruch, we didn’t know much about them but we felt that if we could handle playing against Manhattanville then we could handle anyone at the time. A bit like the Norwich game, this one didn’t exactly go to plan. We looked tired from the day before and played very slowly against a team that looked willing to sit back and let us attack. We made mistakes that I don’t think we would have if we would have been fresh. We went into half time a goal down after they scored a nice free kick. This was the first goal we had conceded this season and it was our first challenge to come from a goal down to try and win. The 2nd half was a much better display from us, we had a heated talk at half time and it seemed to light the fire under some players.

3 minutes into the 2nd half (Danny) Byrnes scored off a nice pass from Bandov. You could tell that he doesn’t score often because of his terrible celebration. Once we got one goal we knew that we could go on to win it but the goal didn’t come immediately like we thought it would. After probing away for a while we got a corner that Bart (Misiak) wanted taken early, so I did and he got a head on it but the goalie managed to save it right into the path of (Pat) Shaughnessy who scored one of his trademark close range goals. The rest of the half wasn’t the prettiest from us and we were slightly disappointed that we didn’t kill the game off like we have been able to do in past years but a win is a win.
